Welcome to the Society of Women Engineers - Sierra Nevada Section Who we are The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a non-profit, educational service organization, founded in 1950, dedicated to the advancement of women in the engineering profession. The Society of Women Engineers Sierra Nevada Section (SWE-SNS), includes members from the Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden and Northern Nevada areas. Our members reflect a diverse range of engineering and technical disciplines. SWE-SNS also interacts with the student SWE section at University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). What we do Professional Development SWE-SNS hosts lunch seminars almost every month. Recent lunch seminars have included "Reno Train Trench Project" and “The Art of Transformational Communication”. Additionally, SWE-SNS members can take advantage of development seminars offered at the regional and national conferences. Scholarship funds are derived from membership fees, corporate sponsors, lunch seminar profits, and fundraising efforts. To learn about our Scholarship Golf Classic fundraiser click here. In April 2007, SWE-SNS sponsored its inaugural “WOW! That's Engineering?” Event for local high school and middle school students. The program is designed to bring teachers, parents and students together with people from industry to introduce them to the idea of pursuing a career in engineering. Attendees will be invited to explore the world of engineering and all it has to offer through panel discussions and experiments. For more information about our 2008 Wow event CLICK HERE! 2008 Wow! Community Outreach SWE-SNS is active in the community providing volunteers and speakers for various outreach programs including Girl Scouts, during Engineers Week and other career fairs.
