Membership

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE)is an educational organization with over 16,000 members nationwide! Members directly benefit by being able to network with other professional women in the engineering field. SWE is an excellent resource for jobs as well as ways to enhance both personal and professional development. Members also find gratification in participating in community outreach programs and by encouraging young women to pursue careers in technical fields.

SWE provides its members with the opportunity to grow and to develop in many areas through professional and technical meetings, joint meetings with other societies, technical tours and social activities. SWE members provide services to women in school by acting as role models and by demonstrating the technical contributions that women have made, and continue to make, in society. SWE also offers the opportunity for its members to learn and to practice management, organizational and leadership skills. This experience can be gained through committee work or by serving as an officer at the section, region, and national levels.

SWE provides a sense of fellowship for our members: a chance to exchange views with those who share varying opinions regarding women in the engineering field. This network of professionals leads to contacts for our members with others who are able to provide assistance in work matters, as well as to help members achieve personal goals.

Through membership in SWE, you can help your company understand and accept women in the engineering profession. Thus, you will not not only make it easier for those who come after you, but you will also build a work environment wherein all professionals, regardless of sex, are treated fairly and given the same opportunities for advancement.

Finally, SWE sponsors various leadership conferences and an annual conference at which a variety of technical, managerial, and SWE specific topics are presented. These forums are a means of focusing resources, and providing training in career guidance, continuing developjment, management and leadership. Student-oriented conference activities, offer student-specific forums such as resume writing and interviewing. A career/exhibit fair links the students and member confereneces.
